Where it started

Though Talkin' 'Bout Tiny Games is a digital 'zine out of convenience, one of the many joys of traditional 'zines is their physicality. As someone who keeps a box of all of the 'zines I've amassed over the years, and as someone who recently realized he's been writing this 'zine for two years (two years longer than I ever expected) , I thought it might be neat to package a yearly compilation PDF of TBTG issues.

It also works to help me look back on the work I've done for this 'zine, considering it's the most consistent writing habit I have. And looking back on the first ten issues of TBTG... wow is it rough. That's not unexpected, considering I'd formally written about games only once before I started it, but it's shocking to see how short my issues used to be, and how shallow my survey of the games covered were. However, the fact that I'm able to see such flaws in my older work at the very least speaks to my improvement, and I can also appreciate the seeds for later trends in the 'zine - like how my issue on 9 different Bitsy games was the precursor to Rapid-fire Recs.

It also provides a sort of nostalgia. The sheer brevity of issues in the first month meant I could publish four of them in that single month, and the short timespan between issues also meant I was writing about pretty much any game I had played, right after I played them - a luxury that I definitely don't have two years in. Year 1 also has the biggest gap in between issues - between November 2019 and March of 2020. I probably could've slowly quit there. Somehow, I didn't.

Hopefully my sophomoric writing at least provides some insight and maybe some games that you find interesting enough to check out.
