Picking Up Steam

Well, that's year 2 out. It's been two months (and five days) since the actual anniversary, but that's a lot closer than the retrospective I did on year 1, so here we go. Year 2 is where I actually started saying things of legitimate depth on the games I covered, which caused my time writing issues to skyrocket. I also just played... more games, which meant that the amount of games I had good things to say about rapidly outpaced the games I actually wrote about. Rapid-fire Recs was my idea to help that a bit, and I think it does its job fairly well (though the third iteration which I recently published shows my inability to have a short opinion on games anymore).

My snail's pace in writing was often a stressor throughout - my A Short Hike issue had actually been in the works long enough that what spurred me to finish it was a major update with extra content, and I still have a Night in the Woods draft that I will likely never finish, even though it's my new 'favourite' game. It just gets too personal, and also rephrases way too much of Errant Signal's video on the same.

My Mr. Mayor issue was originally conceived to be an April Fool's issue, but I wasn't sure I'd even make it to the next April, so I published it in June - and I find it rather ironic that I didn't put anything out for the next April when it hit. Oh well. That's the kind of gag that only works once.

In the end, you can also see my first foray into writing a subjective essay about a video game - an endeavor that I liked enough to immediately follow it with another. Though I have actually returned to video game recommendations, that essay will not be the last.

What else? Well, I'm deeply thankful to anyone who has spent their time reading my thoughts that I put out into the ether - and my friends who put up with my wildly scattershot publishing 'schedule', which admittedly mostly consists of me throwing a dart at a board. It's been great, seeing where I've been, and I hope I'll be around to make it to year 3.
